70 Years After Nagasaki Bombing

August 9th marked 70 years since the US dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. The city held a special memorial service on the historic anniversary. The bell tolled at 11:02 am to mark the exact moment the bomb fell. The atomic bomb destroyed the city of Nagasaki and killed over 70,000 people. This second bomb, which fell three days after the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, ended World War II. Japan’s official surrender took place six days later on August 15th 1945. The average age of Nagasaki’s surviving victims is 80 years old.
